January 23, 2015

The Punta Mita International Golf Club Challenge began on January 14 with an opening cocktail and a private golf clinic with Corey Pavin, who won the 1995 US Open and is a 15-time PGA Tour winner.

Punta Mita, Mexico - Last week, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, located in Mexico's most exclusive beach community along the golden shores of the Riviera Nayarit, hosted the Punta Mita International Golf Club Challenge, with a special appearance by Corey Pavin, who won the 1995 US Open, is a Ryder Cup Captain and is a 15-time PGA Tour winner.

In addition to golf, participants enjoyed exquisite cuisine prepared by a group of acclaimed Mexican chefs, including Maycoll Calderón of J & G Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten at The St. Regis Mexico City, and residents chefs Sylvain Desbois and Pato Persico.

"We are very pleased with the success of our first flagship event of the year, welcoming celebrity golfer Corey Pavin for the fourth time," said Carl Emberson, general manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. "The Punta Mita Golf Challenge hosted more than 50 participants, who enjoyed the two Jack Nicklaus golf courses and unforgettable culinary experiences in true St. Regis style."

"It's a pleasure to return to The St. Regis Punta Mita for the fourth time to participate in their events, which are truly unique and capture the best of golf. It is fascinating to play these golf courses in perfect conditions and golfing with sports fans in this paradise that is Punta Mita," said Corey Pavin.

The Punta Mita International Golf Club Challenge began on January 14 with an opening cocktail and a private golf clinic with Corey Pavin. On Thursday, golfers gathered to participate in the first round on the Pacific course, distinguished by the nineteenth hole, the 'Tail of the Whale.' The first round was followed by another Corey Pavin golf clinic and an exquisite dinner prepared by Chef Sylvain Desbois in the resort's AAA Five Diamond restaurant, Carolina.

On Friday, golfers played the second round on the Bahía course, where Drew Weaver and Michael Williams broke the golf course record with a total of 66 points. That night, golfers enjoyed an oceanfront dinner at Marietas Beach prepared by guest chef Maycoll Calderón from the J & G Grill by Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant at The St. Regis Mexico City.

"It was a pleasure to be the guest chef of the Punta Mita Golf Challenge, it was a unique experience to offer an unforgettable dinner on the beach," said Chef Calderón. "What better way to start the year than with an explosion of flavors inspired by the colors of sunset, and arguably the best ocean views in the Riviera Nayarit?" he asked.

To conclude the event, golfers returned to the Pacific course for the third and final round, which was followed by an awards luncheon at the Sea Breeze restaurant. That afternoon, participants enjoyed the Remède Spa and the resort's serene beach. Later that evening, participants gathered at the Mira Mary Boat Bistro for the Closing Dinner, prepared by Chef Pato Persico.

The winners of the Punta Mita Golf Challenge were:

1. Drew Weaver and Michael Williams with 57 points
2. Scott Nagy and Scott Warman, with 49 points
