León, Guanajuato, Mexico - Defending champion Sebastien Ogier continued his perfect start to the 2015 World Rally Championship season by winning last week's Rally Mexico for Volkswagen.

Entering the third round of the season, Ogier was skeptical of his chances, but managed to finish over one minute clear of second-placed Mads Ostberg after the final stage on Sunday. The Frenchman capped off the victory by winning the final Power Stage, securing himself three bonus points and extending his lead at the top of the championship to 34 points.

Finland's Jari-Matti Latvala had been running Ogier close on Saturday, but threw away his chances of winning the rally by crashing out and damaging the suspension on his car.

"It happened in a narrow section 25km from the start," he told wrc.com. "I had a really good rhythm and wasn't taking any big risks. You have to be careful of big holes inside corners on this rally and when I came to this part I had a hole in my notes," he added.

"Suddenly, when I got to it, I thought it looked worse and I had better go around it. I changed my line and got onto the loose gravel. Straightway I lost the rear and I touched the wall."

However, the big story of the rally belonged to Estonian driver Ott Tanak. On Friday, he escaped unscathed from a terrifying crash into a lake that saw his car sink in just 25 seconds. Remarkably, the Ford M-Sport team managed to recover the car and get it back into the rally, with Tanak eventually finishing in 22nd place.

WRC now takes six weeks off, with Rally Argentina kicking off on April 23.
