Southwest Reveals Prices of Houston-Mexico Flights

go to original
May 20, 2015

Effective October 15, 2015, Dallas-based Southwest will be offering flights out of Houston's William P. Hobby Airport to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico, for $149 USD.

Houston, Texas - Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) has revealed the prices for its new international flights out of Houston.

Effective Oct. 15, Dallas-based Southwest will be offering flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico, for $149 USD, flights from Mexico City for $99, flights from Belize City, Belize, for $127 and flights from San Jose, Costa Rica, for $174.

Effective Nov. 1, the airline will offer flights to Liberia, Costa Rica, for $174 and flights to Montego Bay, Jamaica, for $199. All new international pricing announced so far have been for one-way economy tickets.

The price announcements come on the heels of Southwest announcing the addition of Liberia and Montego Bay routes out of its new international terminal under construction at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport.

Construction of the airline's $156 million international terminal project at Hobby Airport is expected to be completed this fall, and business leaders have speculated that the new flight options would lead to lower airfares.

By comparison, United Airlines and American Airlines, some of the world's biggest airlines in terms of annual passengers, offer one-way flights from Houston to the same destinations for around $600 or $700.

These are the first international flights that Hobby has offered in over 50 years. But the Houston Airport System sees Hobby as a point of focus for international flights to Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
