4th Annual La Cruz International Fishing Tournament

Offering over 3 million pesos in prizes, the Fourth La Cruz International Fishing Tournament will be held September 28-October 1, 2016 at Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico.

La Cruz de Huancaxtle, Mexico - Now in its fourth year, the La Cruz de Huanacaxtle International Fishing Tournament gives anglers the opportunity to test their fishing skills in what is fast becoming known as one of the best fishing destinations in the Americas.

Boasting an abundance of marlin and tuna, as well as top game fish such as sailfish, mahi mahi, grouper, red snapper and wahoo, the Riviera Nayarit, a 160 kilometers of coastline that stretches from Nuevo Vallarta to San Blas, is a sport fisherman's paradise and, with 40 boats already registered, this year's tournament promises some hot and heavy competition in the sailfish, marlin, tuna and dorado categories.


About the Tournament

Scheduled to be held from September 28th through October 1st, this year's tournament offers over 3 million pesos in prizes, among them a pickup truck, seven cars and fishing gear, as well as substantial daily jackpots and brand-new Nissan Tsuru GS1 cars for those who break the current Marlin (325kg) and Sail Fish (52.5kg) records.

Millions of Pesos in Prizes

The first place winner in the Sail Fish category will take home a 2017 Nissan NP 300 Double Cabin Pick Up; second place will win a Nissan March Active TM 2017; third place will drive off in a new Nissan Tsuru GS!; and fourth place takes home a new set of professional sportfishing equipment.

The first places winners in the Marlin, Dorado and Tuna categories will each take home a brand new Nissan March TM 2017; second and third places will receive top-notch fishing gear. All winners will take home a commemorative trophy.

The enrollment fee for this year's La Cruz de Huanacaxtle International tournament is $2,000 USD per boat and its team of up to 4 anglers, all of whom must have a valid fishing license. Catches per boat are limited to a per day maximum of three sailfish (minimum weight 25 kg), one Marlin (minimum weight 85 kg), three Dorado (minimum weight 10 kg), and three Tuna (minimum weight 50 kg).

For spectators, the event is free and open to the public, and Tepic Sports Fishing Club President Lic. Miguel Ángel Sierra Quintana expects the tournament's record of 52 registered boat to be broken. "This a non-profit event to enjoy with friends. Our goal is to promote sport fishing and position the state of Nayarit as one of the world's best places for angling," he said.

In fact, on October 1st there will be a free Junior Tournament for anglers ages 6 to 11, divided into three categories. There is a limit of 250 participants in this event, which starts at 7:00 am.

Registration for the 4th International Fishing Tournament in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is now open and can be made on the Club de Pesca Tepic website, by calling the Tepic Fishing Club's office at (311) 160-0675, or at the Enrollment and Welcome Cocktail, scheduled to be held at Marina Riviera Nayarit on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:30-11:30 pm.
