go to original
January 27, 2017

San Blas offers the best birdwatching in Mexico, which is why this year, besides the usual ecotourism activities, there will also be cultural, artistic and academic programs with an environmental focus.

San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico - The XIII International Migratory Birds Festival (FIAM by its acronym in Spanish) will be celebrated in San Blas from January 29 to February 5, 2017. This year's program offers a variety of activities aimed at encouraging culture, the arts and, above all, the preservation of the environment with a special focus on birds.

Rosaura Gascón, president of FIAM in San Blas, has extended an open invitation to all who want to get to know more about this 13-year-old project that seeks to contribute to the development of the Riviera Nayarit.

There will be six Bird Observation Routes offered at dawn on different days: Singayta on Monday; Zoquilpan on Tuesday; a tour through the streets of San Blas on Tuesday and Thursday; La Tovara on Thursday (day and night); Isla Isabel on Friday; and La Bajada on Saturday.

There will be three conferences at the Casa de la Cultura to be held at 5 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by different academics that will speak about environmental conservation, geography and bird migration. On Tuesday an art expo will be held at the same time and place.

During the entire week from Sunday to Sunday there will be stage shows at the Main Plaza including dances and live music starting at 8 pm. There will be a classical music concert by the symphony orchestra held in the village church at 9 pm.

The days dedicated to the reclamation of public areas will be on Fridays and Saturdays in the morning and will consist of giving maintenance to public spaces such as sports courts, churches and bandstands in the different neighborhoods of San Blas.

Kids will be able to attend the Jardín Benito Juárez Children’s Journey, which will give youngsters aged three to 11 years the opportunity to participate in environmental workshops. In addition, 100 children from local schools will also be able to participate in a camp that includes different tasks aimed at creating environmental awareness in the younger generations. The camp will take place under the watchful eye of the Secretary of the Navy.

Ernesto Del Toro Magaña and Luis "Vampi" Tovar will be working on the Community Murals during the week for their presentation on closing day.
