'Lucha Libre con Causa,' a Family-Friendly Event in PV

May 31, 2018

Demonio Blanco Jr. said that only top level luchadores who represent this sport with dignity were invited to participate, to ensure a 100% family-friendly show that respects both Lucha Libre and the audience.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Puerto Vallarta families are invited to come out to Arena Coliseo Demonio Blanco in Coapinole on Sunday, June 3 at 4:00 pm for 'Lucha Libre con Causa,' an exciting event created as a means of raising funds for retired luchadores (wrestlers) and the Puerto Vallarta Animal Shelter, El Centro de Control, Asistencia Animal y Albergue Municipal (CCAAAM).

At a recent press conference, the details of this 'event with a cause' were presented by luchadores 'Demonio Blanco Jr.' and 'Cuervo Jr.', along with Silvia Álvarez Bustos, the Animal Welfare coordinator at City Hall.

The event will feature 25 luchadores participating in 5 relay matches. 'Demonio Blanco Jr.' said that only top level fighters who represent this sport with dignity were invited to participate, to ensure a 100% family-friendly show, in which both Lucha Libre and the audience are respected.

Lucha Libre events of this caliber usually come with a high price of admission, but to make this event accessible to all of the people of Puerto Vallarta, tickets cost just 30 pesos for children and 90 pesos for adults.

The show is an homage to the legendary and recently deceased luchador, 'As Charro,' who was an important exponent of Lucha Libre. 'Cuervo Jr.' explained that the price of admission will be supporting not just 'As Charro's' family, but also other icons of this Mexican sport who are now retired, many of them living in precarious conditions.

"We have seen many of our comrades have to retire rather unexpectedly and unfortunately their quality of life is pretty bad, so we need to support them. They are trying to form Unidos por la Lucha Libre ('United for Lucha Libre') which is a non-profit association that will support La Casa del Luchador, a place that will give them the help that they need," he explained.

A portion of the event's proceeds will also support the municipally run 'pound.' Better known as CCAAAM, the Puerto Vallarta Animal Shelter is staffed by fabulous veterinarians and caretakers who work hard every day to ensure each animal's basic needs are met, but they rely strictly on donations to provide food and medicine to all of the dogs and cats that are sheltered there.

On behalf of CCAAAM, Silvia Álvarez thanked the organizers for including the animal shelter in this laudable initiative. "Lucha Libre and representatives of this sport are part of Mexico's culture and history, and combining a human cause with support for our four-legged friends demonstrates that you can work on both issues at the same time," she said.

Make plans now to attend the 'Lucha Libre con Causa' on June 3. In addition to world-class Lucha Libre wrestling matches, there will be many surprises for attendees, such as free masks given to the first 50 children (accompanied by an adult) to arrive at the arena; and tickets automatically entering attendees in a raffle for five original masks autographed by Mexican Lucha Libre idols 'Tinieblas', 'As Charro', 'Blue Demon Jr.', 'Hijo del Santo', and the pride of Puerto Vallarta, 'White Demon'.

Tickets are available at the Animal Welfare Coordination offices (Calle Capilla at the corner of Coyules in Barrio Santa María), Borrayo in El Pitillal, Aequilibrium Bikes, the Demonio Blanco Gym and Sierra Aconcagua No. 950.

Arena Coliseo Demonio Blanco is located at Calle Miramar 677A, in Puerto Vallarta's Colonia Coapinole. Click HERE for a Google map.
