Gardening with Paul Paul Sanders
Hola and welcome to the tropical world of gardening.
This is that lovely time of year when the fragrance of blossoms is only surpassed by the scent of mildew. Dr. Ruth or Dear Abby I am not, but perhaps I can give you advice that will help you care for and enjoy the plants that grow so well here in Puerto Vallarta but always seem to present a few problems.
Planting, gardening and selecting plants can be so enjoyable and rewarding if it is kept simple. If your garden, planter box, or collection of houseplants is strictly "non-stress," you will enjoy and share that enjoyment with all that view your surroundings.
We will not be discussing how to create a lovely English formal garden in this beautiful Bay of Banderas, instead we will try to help you create and maintain lush, healthy plants in this tropical atmosphere where it should be so easy - but is not.
In this exceptional bay of ours we have so many microclimates and sun exposures that your plants may need completely different care than those of your neighbor next door. By keeping it simple you to can have a perfect setting without a full time gardener.
Choosing the correct plant for a certain location is most important. Don't try to grow ferns in a dark closed in room. You may see this in magazines but they are just there for the photo shoot and are removed afterward, it is simply a matter of rotation. Believe me I know; been there, done that. There are many ways to create that House and Garden or Architectural Digest look and we will cover some in future articles.
Each and every home or garden is a special challenge, but remember you just have to take care of yours. Don't even think problems, plants only give joy. Their lives are so simple and basic. We are the ones that create the stress that overshadows their beauty and peacefulness. |
