New Classrooms Dedicated by Jalisco Education Secretary

Puerto Vallarta - In ceremonies presided over by Jalisco Secretary of Education Guillermo Martínez Mora and municipal authorities, five new classrooms were recently dedicated at two local schools, a preschool and a grammar school, in Colonia Joyas del Pedregal.

The first ceremony took place at the Independencia Elementary School, which benefited from three new classrooms built with funding provided by the Program to Eradicate Backwardness in Basic and Initial Education together with a 542 thousand pesos investment by state and local municipal governments.

Upon addressing students, parents and teachers, Martinez Mora emphasized that the government is not the only benefactor of bringing these classrooms about; these types of works are made possible by taxes resulting from the hard work and efforts of parents, as well as the support of state and local municipal authorities.

He went on to say that it is a pledge of the state government, headed by Francisco Ramirez Acuña, to properly manage revenue to build dignifying classrooms where teachers and students can teach and learn. He encouraged students to take care of the classrooms handed over to them, so that future generations might also enjoy attending classes in a school built by the community's efforts.

Independencia Elementary School Principal Epitacio Ramirez thanked the secretary and authorities for providing necessary educational spaces in fast-growing areas like these. In turn, Karina Barrios Hernandez addressed authorities and reminisced about her elementary education at Independencia School. She told how the school has grown from classrooms housed in palapa thatch roof huts, then temporary constructions built by benefactors, and now new classrooms have been built that will give other children the opportunity to receive their elementary education here.

Acting as the mayor’s representative, the head of Puerto Vallarta's Education Department, Lidia Saracco, said parents and teachers have yearned for these classrooms for a long time. She made a plea for continuing support from the Education Secretariat for building more classrooms in areas where they are much needed, and pledged the willingness of the Municipal government to continue in their support of improving our children's educations.

After the initial ceremony, the delegation continued on to the Xochonotl Preschool where two fully-equipped classrooms were dedicated. In attendance at the ceremony were City Council members Faustino de la O'Michel and Yolanda Cuevas Cortez, as well as authorities from the education sector of the municipality.
