DIF Representatives Visit Women Inmates

DIF authorities and volunteers recently visited female prisoners at the Integral Center of Justicia Regional [the North Coast Penitentiary,] taking a small gift to more than 60 women in observance of Mother's Day.
Puerto Vallarta - DIF authorities and volunteers began the Mother's Day celebrations early this year by spending the day with more than 60 women prisoners at the Integral Center of Justicia Regional [CEINJURE] last weekend.

Thanks to the support of Santiago Rodriguez Medina, the director of the penitentiary center, and assistant director Ana Maria Branches Hernandez, the incarcerated mothers shared moments of joy with the ladies who volunteered to visit with them.

After enjoying a piece pie, Welfare Programs coordinator Claudia Parra Aburto and Teresa González Villaseñor, the coordinator of the seven Welfare Centers of Child Development, accompanied by volunteers Elisa Gutiérrez de Bolivar and Victoria Curiel de Cermeño, presented the inmates with kitchen appliances and a sewing machine for use within the penitentiary.

Before the inmate's applause had a chance to die down, each of the ladies was presented with an additional gift - a bag of personal hygiene items such as soap, toothpaste, toilet paper and shampoo. To show their appreciation, the inmates entertained the volunteers by singing about "the ladies from the DIF who came to visit us and bring us these gifts," in an original song to the accompaniment of a guitar.

After the entertainment, the volunteers demonstrated the proper use of the new appliances that the eight groups that comprise the National Association of Personal Overcoming Program, [ANSPAC] installed in one of the outer corridors of the prison.

Later, the director of the institution, Maria of the Monroy Rosary, accompanied by Welfare Programs coordinator Claudia Parra Aburto, gave a speech in recognition of Gloria Córdova de González's efforts in putting together the festivities for the mothers who attend the program.

"Every day that we live is a reason to continue the fight. For some it will be easy, and for others a little more difficult. For this reason, we have to communicate, ask questions and educate, because that is the reflection that we are going to give to our families. In order to do this for others, we must have the same values," the director emphasized.

Marcela Navarrete Cárdenas, the coordinator of the ANSPAC program, also congratulated the imprisoned mothers who attended the program, and promised to continue in her efforts to assist them in finding new ways to make every day better than the day before.
