email this pageprint this pageemail usChristopher Codrington - PVNN

The Rocky Horror show will be playing throughout the year at the Palm at 508 Olas Altos Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. For more information please call 223-4818.
I recieved a flyer from a friend that announced a live perofrmance of the Rocky Horror Show and decided to check it out. I remembered going to the movie version when I was in high school and college.

The movie version, starring Tim Curry, is the only true live participation movie in existence and is famous for having the audience throw rice and other things, dress up like the characters and say various lines along with the cast. Rocky Horror actually started as a play in London in the early 70's but was overshadowed by the cult success of the film which can still be seen at midnight showings all over the free world.

The version of 'Rocky' as it is called by fans that is currently showing at the Palm on Olas Altas is derived from the play, not the movie, and is acted out by a lively cast of locals. As 11:00 rolled around a large crowd of people started to form and take their seats as anticipation of the night's performance grew.

Cast members could be seen rushing about in full costume making final preparations for the show and greeting guests at this, their opening night performance. The comfortably subtle and spacious interior of the Palm was filled almost to capacity with just a few seats left empty when the lights came down and the show began.

There is a reason why the play and film are cult classics. They tell the story of a young couple, Brad and Janet that have car trouble and end up asking to use the phone at a mansion owned by the extremely eccentric mad scientist Dr. Frankenfurter. They become embroiled in an extremely weird adventure involving sex, drugs, and the inevitable rock and roll. It will leave you laughing and singing along, and after a few drinks you might even be doing the Time Warp...it's just a jump to the left...

The Rocky Horror Show
Federico Fonseca plays Dr. Frankenfurter, Magenta is played by Dora Gosselin, Brad and Janet are played by Michael Thompson and Sara Cross respectively, Dr. Scott and Eddie are both played by Wally Lobato, Rocky is played by Tyler Hobbs with sound and lights by Steve Sanchez. Each cast member really pulls off their character with a lively flair and energy seldom seen in local theater. There is a fair amount of improvisation and a lot of humor thrown in so each performance takes on it's own energy, you will not be disappointed.

The mixed crowd had no mixed emotions about the night's performance as the roared with applause at the conclusion, mesmerized and emersed in the spirit of a truly great performance. A good time was had by all.

The Rocky Horror show will be playing throughout the year at the Palm at 508 Olas Altos Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:00 p.m. For more information please call 223-4818.
