4-Lane Avenida Amazonas Officially Opens
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

Last week, in an inauguration celebration attended by city authorities and representatives of both the public and private sectors, Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor officially opened the four-lane Avenida Amazonas, which connects the main road in the Puerto Vallarta hotel zone, Francisco Medina Ascencio, with Avenida Francisco Villa.

Most of the construction cost was absorbed by the developers of Fluvial Vallarta that contributed some $40 Million Pesos, with City Hall contributing $8.5 Million Pesos for the installation of the sewage system, grass, and palm trees along the new road.

Following criticism from ecologists in Puerto Vallarta for cutting down trees in Hidalgo and Benito Juarez parks, Mayor Gonzalez Villaseñor promised to plant 20 trees for every one that was cut down. He started fulfilling that promise with the planting of 60 palm trees along the center island of the new Avenue.

During the River Amazon inaugural ceremony, industrialist Jesus Rodriguez Morquecho, president of the Fluvial Vallarta real estate development, publicly recognized González Villaseñor, saying that without his support this important road work would not have been accomplished.

Morquecho added that Amazon River Avenue is just one of the road works that will integrate the Fluvial Vallarta subdivision with the city of Puerto Vallarta, saying that additional important avenues still nned to be constructed, such as the Great Lakes street bridge, which will cross the Pitillal River and connect the residential neighborhood to Avenida Prisciliano Sánchez.

After cutting the inaugural ribbon, González Villaseñor and his wife Gloria Córdova de González, president of the Municipal System DIF, accompanied by Jesus Rodriguez Morquecho, hopped into a classic car for the first passage along the new Avenida Amazon River.
