Braun Racing Signs Mexican Driver Jorge Goeters

Braun Racing has signed Mexico City native Jorge Goeters to drive the #32 Braun Racing Chevrolet in this weekend’s Salute to the Troops 250 NASCAR Busch Series race at Pikes Peak International Raceway and in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International on August 13th.
Goeters, who received international attention earlier this year when he captured the pole and led 24 laps in the inaugural NASCAR Busch Series race in Mexico City, will pilot the #32 Camel/Scotiabank Inverlat Chevrolet for Mooresville, NC based Braun Racing.
“Jorge impressed a lot of people with his driving ability, personality, and overall attitude while we were in Mexico City,” owner Todd Braun stated. “There’s no doubt he is the complete package. Jorge has had a lot of success in several top-tier racing circuits and we are confident that he can bring that level of success to our team. We are excited to have him join our organization and hope to work with him more in the future.”
Goeters, 35, who resides in Mexico City with his wife and daughter, began his racing career in 1993 in the Mexican Sport Prototype Championship Series. In 1998, Goeters headed to the United States where he ran in the Indy Lights Championship Series. That same year, he scored five top-ten finishes in 12 starts. While racing Indy Lights, Goeters made starts at Pikes Peak International Raceway, Gateway International Raceway, and Homestead-Miami Speedway; all NASCAR Busch Series stops.
Returning to Mexico, Goeters competed in Formula 3 finishing second in 2000 and taking the championship in 2001. A year later, he made the jump to the Mastercard Truck Series taking the title before moving to the Desafio Corona Stock Car Challenge Series in 2004, where he placed second in his first season.
2005 has been a year of firsts for the Mexican Star. Aside from capturing the Busch Pole Award and leading several laps at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in March, Goeters also competed in his first Champ Car Series race at Monterrey. On a more consistent basis, Goeters has been competing in the Corona Stock Car Series where he currently leads the championship standings.
“Ever since the race in Mexico City, I have been dreaming about returning to the NASCAR Busch Series. I am very grateful for this opportunity and intend on making the best of it. This is a very exciting time for my sponsors, my family, and my country,” Jorge Goeters added.
The Braun Racing team will be looking to go the distance this weekend as they head west to race at Pikes Peak International Raceway, located high in the Rocky Mountains. |
