Prison to Present Bullfight to Inmates
email this pageprint this pageemail usWire services

Inmates at a penitentiary in central Mexico will have the chance next weekend to witness the first-ever bullfighting spectacle in the country's prison system, authorities said Monday.

"The goal is to provide healthy recreation for inmates, as part of the overall aim of their social rehabilitation, and to recognize their good behavior," the warden of the San José el Alto prison in Queretaro state, Sergio Amaya Castañeda, told EFE.

"The bullfight was sponsored by altruistic people in the state who have worked together to bring this event to the facility," the warden added.

Authorities will install within the prison grounds a portable bull ring, which will have all the comforts and security typical of a bullfighting spectacle.

Four professional bullfighters will take part, and four bulls will be provided by ranches owned by José Oleskostes and Rodrigo Ajuirra.
