Put Some Wind in Your Sails at the Festival Nautico

There are lots of great festivals throughout the Americas, and recently Puerto Vallarta has joined the ranks of those cities such as Key West, St. John's Antigua, Rio de Janero and New Orleans that act as a venue for international Gran Festivals.

The Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival and the International Festival Gourmet both experienced great turnout this year and distinguished themselves on the International scene. Now, the yachting community is about to follow suit with the 2006 Festival Nautico in March.

This festival is centered around several yachting events including the following:

San Diego-Vallarta 06 Race - Concludes March 3rd - This International Regatta will include over 50 California race boats and 500 sailors racing from the San Diego Yacht Club to Punta de Mita, Nayarit.

Governor's Big Boat Parade - March 4th - This parade consists of a flotilla of highly decorated and colorful yachts, megayachts and pangas parading from Puerto Vallarta Terminal Marina to Los Muertos Beach.

The Governors Cup Race - March 4th - This colorful race will be witnessed by the parade and will include participants of the Mexorc as a prelude to the Mexorc which starts on March 5th.

The WesMex Optimist Regatta - March 4th and 5th - This is a fun, but sanctioned one design regatta will include the Vallarta Yacht Club Opti sailors in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta as well as young Mexican Sailors from Lake Chapala, Mexico City, Cancun and Acapulco.

Mexorc International Regatta - March 5th through the 10th - This Mexican International Regatta consists of 4 days of bay racing - This regatta is a long standing tradition in Mexico, started by one of the founders of the Acapulco Yacht Club.

Big Cat Dinghy Raft Up - March 11th - This is a new event in which two to three hundred dinghies will be rafted up to three big catamarans - hopefully to achieve a Guinness World Record. It will include live music and lots of fun in the sun.

Seminar Days - March 13th and 14th - This will be a two-day event consisting of several great seminars centered around sailing and cruising with the goal of having participants walk away feeling enriched and informed.

Vallarta Yacht Club St. Patty's Fun Cruise to Punta de Mita - March 17th and 18th - This event, open to sail and power boats is an overnight cruise to Punta de Mita. Participants will be shuttled ashore for a barbecue fiesta on the beach with games organized for Saturday morning and a downwind cruise to home ports on Saturday afternoon.

Vallarta Yacht Club Fishing Tournament - March 23rd and 24th - This fun, low-key fishing tournament with both an inside the bay and ocean venue. Prizes will be awarded on Friday evening with a fish fry at the yacht club in Nuevo Vallarta.

Paradise Music Festival and Bay and Art Exhibit - March 25th - An afternoon of world-class music with International and Mexican artists performing at the Paradise Amphitheater. There will also be exhibits featuring bay attractions and environmental information, there will also be exhibits featuring marine art.

The 3rd Annual Latitude 38 Punta Mita Charity Spinnaker Run - March 28th - The warmup for the Regatta, this leisure cruise to Punta Mita includes lunch in Punta Mita and lots of fun, watch for the whales on the return trip!

The Banderas Bay Regatta - March 29th through April 1st - Wednesday afternoon is the Captains meeting and kickoff party at the club. Thursday the race begins with a harbor parade. Race 2 and 3 are on Friday.

Festival Nautico Gran Finale and Awards night - April Fools Day - The culmination of the month-long festival will be celebrated at the Paradise Amphitheater, with lots of color, food, drink and awards with a wrap-up slideshow of the month's activities.

This Festival promises to be a very exciting and entertaining time for yachtees and land lovers alike, with a wide range of activities and opportunities to enjoy the best of what Banderas Bay has to offer.
