For further information, contact Bill Liggett at [322] 209-1259, email: going2pv@yahoo.com or The Vallarta Yacht Club at [322] 297-2222, email: info@vallartayachtclub.com.
On December 16th, The Vallarta Yacht Club will be hosting its monthly Fishing Frenzy Contest. Intended to be an opportunity to enjoy a friendly fishing competition while introducing non-members to the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) at Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta, the contest is open to everyone who has a love of fishing.

Vallarta Yacht Club's monthly Fishing Frenzy Contest is open to all boats and anglers. Contestants who wish to enter the competition must register their boat, and the names of all anglers expected to be on the boat, with the VYC at least three days before the Friday contest.

Boat owners are encouraged to provide additional spaces on their boats for anglers without boats. Any additional available spaces on each boat will be filled by the VYC prior to the contest.

The entry fee for each competitor is $20 USD, which will be used to purchase the prizes. In addition, each competitor will be expected to contribute to the costs for live bait, fuel and cleaning fees for the boat on which they are competing.

All competitors should assemble at the VYC docks at 7 am. Once all boats and anglers have checked in, the competition will begin. The boundaries of the competition will be separated into "In Bay" and "Ocean" venues.

Only edible fish will be included in the final weigh-in, with bill fish hopefully released. Prizes will be awarded to the boats that brings in the most edible fish, by weight, for the "In Bay" venue and the "Ocean" venue, as well as the angler with the largest fish in each venue. The weigh-in will be at 4 pm.

The Picante Cup

The original Fishing Frenzy was organized by the late Commodore of the Vallarta Yacht Club, Jim Ketler. His boat, the Picante, was the first winner of this competition. The yacht club has established a perpetual trophy called the Picante Cup in memory of Jim, his love of fishing, and his boat that consistently won the competition.

This year and each year in the future, the name of the boat winning the most monthly competitions, by overall weight of edible fish, will be engraved on the Picante Cup. For the purposes of the Picante Cup, the Vallarta Yacht Club fishing year will begin on the first of November of each year and end on the last day of May of the following year.

Evening Fish Fry

There will be a "very fresh" Fish Fry the evening of the competition, hopefully made possible entirely by the fish caught during the contest. Festivities begin at 6 pm at the VYC restaurant/clubhouse and will include an awards ceremony. The cost of the dinner is $10 USD per person, and all contestants, club members, and visitors are welcome to attend.

Fishing Frenzy Notification

The date of future Fishing Frenzy will be posted on the VYC website at www.vallartayachtclub.com, at the VYC clubhouse, at selected sites throughout the Puerto Vallarta area and announced on the VHF net on channel 22 the Monday before each competition.

Sign up sheets will be available at the clubhouse during the week prior to the contest for those offering boats and for individual contestants to sign up to be included on the boats having remaining space available.
