Candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AP/Dario Lopez-Mills)
Mexico - "Por el bien de todos" (For the Good of All) presidential coalition candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador promised Mexicans that he would head a sober, honest, competent and austere government.

"I will govern listening to people because true democracy calls for attending to their demands," asserted Lopez Obrador, who presided over the first session of the Consulting Council for an Alternative Project of the Nation.

Obrador, candidate of the Democratic Revolution, the Workers and the Convergence opposition parties for the July 2 elections, said he would made rational decisions if he wins the electoral race.

He has pledged to create a government made up of the best men and women of Mexico, "without yielding to contacts or partisanship."

Universities and university students will be a fundamental source to foster our programs and form the cabinet, he pointed out.

He stated the nation´s 200th anniversary of the independence and the Mexican Revolution´s 100th anniversary will be commemorated in 2010, so if he wins elections, he will work to honor those anniversaries.
