Semana Santa Sunday, April 9, 2006
There will be a 10K race this Sunday, April 9th at the Municipal Sports Stadium across from the Sheraton resort starting at 8:00 AM. The race is called the "Corre Vallarta Carrera 10K Semana Santa 2006." The event which expects a strong turnout is promoted in coordination with the State of Jalisco Sports Association.

The fee to sign up is 150 pesos and there will be cash prizes in each of the eight categories determined by age and sex. The most competitive division will be the "under 29" or free division for both men and women which will draw top competitors not only from Puerto Vallarta, but will feature some international runners. First place will earn the winner 5000 pesos, while 2nd and 3rd will be rewarded with 3000 and 2000 pesos.

Other divisions will be the Master A; ages 30-39, with men and women competing separately. First prize will be 3000 pesos. The Master B race will be for 40-49 year olds and carry the same prize of 3000 pesos. The Master C race will be for 50 and over and the winner will earn 1500 pesos. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division.

The race is not strictly for competitors that are shooting for first place, as the majority of runners will compete against each other, against personal best times, and many will run the race as a "fun run". Reports state that 1000 runners are expected, so don't stay out too late Saturday night and join everyone in the 10K.

For more information, call 322.779-5229 or visit the website www.vallartadeportes.com or stop by the Sports Stadium office to sign up.
