Day of the Dolphin
email this pageprint this pageemail usLaura Gelezunas - PVNN

Over 40 kids from Centro de Atención Educación Especial in Bucerias enjoy Dolphin Day at Dolphin Adventure. BanderasNews video journalist, Laura Gelezunas, dives right in, so you can share in the joy and hear about Macy Jozsef's work with kids and dolphins.

Everyone was all smiles on June 13th, as over 40 kids from Centro de Atención, Educación Especial, a school in Bucerias for kids with special needs, enjoyed some well-deserved Dolphin Therapy at Dolphin Adventure in Nuevo Vallarta.

Splishing, splashing and a little dancing kept everyone happy during dolphin day, as special needs children, from several months old to 14 years of age reached out and made some new friends ... dolphin friends!

Beta Sigma Phi, a charity organization out of Bucerias, organized the event, with the help of Macy Jozsef of Living from the Heart, who has been practicing dolphin therapy for more than 20 years, and is now offering Dolphin Day Camp at Vallarta Adventures' dolphin center in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

The positive energy of a dolphin's touch is a powerful experience, not to mention dolphin kisses. And after witnessing the kid's experiences on Dolphin Day, Sandy Penner of Beta Sigma Phi, couldn't agree more.

"The kids have just been having a great time, they were a little nervous at first, but once they got into the water with the dolphins, it just seems they relaxed ... and the greatest thing was seeing those smiles on their faces," said Penner.

For about two decades, physical therapists and psychologists have praised the effects of dolphin therapy and how swimming with dolphins can help the sick and handicapped. The simple joy of being with the dolphin is effective immediately, but some claim that the effects from the dolphin therapy lasts long after the encounter.

According to Dolphin Therapist, Macy Jozsef, "The parents call me a week later and say 'my child is speaking in sentences and they never did that before, my child potty trained himself after being here,' and things like that. The things that people come away with are nothing short of miraculous."

Dolphin Day will be remembered by these kids for years to come, but maybe even more so by the parents and volunteers, who enjoyed it as much as the children. Organizers hope to make this an annual event, with the approval of everyone involved.
