XXII Copa Canto del Sol Tournament Announced

Puerto Vallarta - Canto Del Sol Tennis Director, Martin Parra, and resort General Manager, Rene Rodriguez, announced the 22nd Annual Copa Canto del Sol will be placed beginning July 31st. A large field of regional players is expected to compete in eight categories. The tournament will be played under the Association of Tennis, State of Jalisco. Points will be awarded to competitors in all divisions in an attempt to improve rankings in the State of Jalisco.
The categories named are the "Open" or AA professional category, as well as B, C, D, Novice and this year's tournament will also include the addition of "C over 50" and "D over 50" classes. Singles and doubles competition will be open to all players except for the AA and novice categories.
In addition, as part of the tournament, The 2nd Annual Copa Grupo 3 Canto Del Sol will be played beginning August 2nd and concluding August 4th. The categories for this youth competition will be by age. Ten, twelve, fourteen, sixteen and eighteen-year-olds will compete in both the male and female categories. The cost to enter is $220 pesos and the deadline for entry is July 28th. The draws will be made public on July 30th at the cocktail reception.
The cost to enter the XXII Copa is $300 pesos and all entries must be in before July 28th. The draw will be announced on Sunday, July 30th at the pre-tournament cocktail party at the Copa Canto del Sol resort in Puerto Vallarta. In singles, the winner of each division will be awarded 96 valuable points, the runner up 80.
Semifinalists will receive 64 points, quarter finalists 48. All players will receive points, with only eight going to first-round losers. In doubles, the breakdown point is 48 for the winners, 40 for the runner ups. Reaching the semifinals will earn players 32 points and the quarters will get 24.
