Ribbon cutting, 8 am Tuesday, August 29th. Lic. Luis Cerda, minister of tourism for PV, cuts the ribbon on behalf of Mayor Gustavo Villasenor.

Ujena Bikini Jam 21 Week gets off to a good start with a sunrise photo shoot.

Ujena CEO, Bob Anderson, thanked local media for the consistent and "fantastic" publicity given Bikini Jam Week.
It's been 8 months since the first news conference in January, 2006, announcing that Puerto Vallarta had been selected as the city for the first Ujena Swimwear Bikini Jam Week, August 29 to September 3.

Now, Bikini Jam Week has arrived and, based on the information gathered during the news conference held at the NH Krystal Hotel, it's going to be almost everything it was promised to be.

Apparently, the decision of Mexican TV network Televisa to take a "wait and see until next year," attitude has influenced the decision of several big-name female celebs to skip Bikini Jam Week.

Even so, there will be 124 international bikini models and 69 photographers from around the world, on the streets, beaches and tourist attractions of Puerto Vallarta until the closing ceremonies on Sunday.

In addition, there will be a number of production companies filming for TV specials, DVD's, real-time broadcasts via cell phone and print media cover stories. While this event marks the 21st Bikini Jam, this is the first time a "weeklong" format has been tried.

Ujena has partnered with over 30 companies, sponsors if you will, to offer about $150,000 USD in cash prizes, contracts and trips to the winners of several competitive activities.

Why was Puerto Vallarta selected for the first ever Bikini Jam Week? CEO Anderson says it's "the colonial feel ... and to get fantastic photography, especially at sunset."

BJW has been a much anticipated event. September is normally the slowest time of year for this tourism-driven city. Not only will the 500 people associated with the production of Bikini Jam be a boost to the local economy, it will also liven up and give exposure to Puerto Vallarta's tourist scene.

Bikini Jam Week is a mix of public and private events. The public is invited to attend some events free of charge, some can be attended by purchasing a VIP Pass and some events are for industry professionals only, closed to the public. Day passes for some events will also be available.

Tuesday morning is the kickoff of Bikini Jam Week events with the 8 am ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the Mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Gustavo Villasenor, to open the festivities.

That will be followed by the Ujena Bikini Golf Tournament at the El Tigre Club de Golf at Paradise Village, starting at 10 am. Forty bikini models are expected to be on the course for photo shoot opportunities. The first day ends with the BJW Opening Night Party at Collage, beginning at 10:30 pm.

Another much-anticipated event which encourages public participation is the Ujena 5k Run. It features bikini models running alongside elite runners. There is an entrance fee and T-shirts will be given to the first 450 who finish the race. The proceeds of this event will be donated to the Mexican Red Cross (Cruz Roja.)

BJW '06 finishes up on Sunday night at Christine's Nightclub with the Bikini Image Award Show. There'll be live music, dancing fashion shows and awards, such as the Image Awards, Bikini Model of the Year and Photographer of the Year. For the full calendar of events, click HERE.
