The 21st annual Ujena Bikini Jam got underway Tuesday morning with a ribbon cutting at host hotel NH Krystal. Lic. Luis Cerda, minister of tourism, cut the ribbon on behalf of Puerto Vallarta mayor Gustavo Villasenor.

Immediately after the ribbon cutting, models, photographers and golfers headed out to El Tigre Golf Club at Paradise Village. The course was in excellent shape for the scramble format tournament.

The day's activities continued with an on-location bikini photography session with Ujena CEO Bob Anderson. Evening events featured a dinner hosted by Carlos O'Brian's and an opening night gala at Collage.

Wednesday's activities started early with sunrise photo shoots and a day long Mini Expo. The Expo was held at the NH Krystal Hotel. Approximately 30 Bikini Jam sponsors were present with information about their products and services.

Solomodels.com and onemodelplace.com both offer on-line presence for models. For a variety of prices, models can display photos and information on the web for prospective employers to see. Hoss Etemad of solomodels.com stressed that all content is reviewed prior to being placed on line and that no nudity or pornography is allowed.

Other sponsors were offering competitions for models. Action Events and Promotions is looking for a "spokesmodel." The winner of their search will win a cash prize and the opportunity to work for Action Events.

Heidi Hoffman of Paradeez Productions says her company will be producing a DVD of the entire Bikini Jam event. The winner of their video shoot competition will be the company spokeswoman on the DVD.

RunBet.net is a Toronto-based online betting company. They, too, are scouting for girls for their website photo shoot and to appear in a pilot for a TV show about their company.

And of course primary sponsor Ujena was well represented with their sales of bikinis, T-shirts and other apparel. UjenaTalent.com was there to promote their model and photographer "comp card" service.

While the Expo was going on, contestant interviews and judged mock photo shoots were taking place. Models in the competition are judged 1/3 by the interview, 1/3 for their bikini body and 1/3 for posing. Ujena is looking for women with "Ujena swimsuit ability." A former competition winner described this as a combination of looks, personality, fitness and self-confidence.

Saturday, September 2nd will be a busy day for the Ujena Bikini Jam models and photographers. They will be out and about in Puerto Vallarta and you are invited to join in the fun!

Registration starts at 7:30 am Saturday for the Puerto Vallarta International Ujena 5K Walk/Run. $100 pesos is all it takes to enter the run. The event starts at 9 am at the Sports Stadium, heads north towards the bridge by the Holiday Inn and returns to the stadium.

T-shirts will be given to the first 450 finishers and medals will be awarded to the top 100 runners. There are also cash prizes totaling $1000 USD. Puerto Vallarta's Half Marathon director Carlos Arceo is also the director of the Ujena Run/Walk. Arceo welcomes all local runners to come out and make this a great sporting event. Proceeds from the run will benefit the Cruz Roja.

Later on Saturday, Ujena and the Hilo Disco will host the Ujena Party by the Sea. Starting at 5:30 pm, this free event is downtown on the Malecon. Everyone's invited to watch the bikini models and photographers in action. Photo shoots will be taking place all along the Malecon and the public is invited to come see them at work. A free fashion show will take place at 7 pm.

The Bikini Jam continues until Sunday evening when the Ujena Model of the Year will be announced.
