El Arrayán Cocina Tradicional
email this pageprint this pageemail usGary R. Beck - PVNN

El Arrayán is located at 344 Allende, a short stroll from the Malecon. Reservations can be made by calling 222-7195. Website: ElArrayan.com.mx.
Named the "Best Mexican Restaurant in Vallarta" by a landslide for the past two years in Lifestyles Magazine's Reader's Choice awards, El Arrayán in downtown Puerto Vallarta offers authentic Mexican food at moderate prices.

Named for the aromatic Jaliscan flowering tree found in the restaurant's courtyard, which reminds owner Carmen Porras of the fruit-bearing tree at her great-grandfather’s home in Guadalajara, this authentic Mexican restaurant has been serving traditional dishes made from old family recipes since 2003.

Actively rescuing old Mexican cooking techniques and using one hundred percent locally produced ingredients, Carmen and Chef Juan Manuel Cruz J. bring traditional Mexican cuisine up to the internationally renowned culinary standards that has made Puerto Vallarta famous.

Start your meal with one of the many soups, salads and appetizers with plentiful portions that are perfect for sharing before dinner, like their impressive Pozole de Camarón, Black Bean Soup, Plantain Empanadas filled with black beans and cheese, fantastic Ceviche Colima with Baby Scallops, Shrimp and Mango Aguachile, Duck [Pato] Tostaditas, Nopal Cactus Pad Salad with panela, or, if your feeling adventurous, an order of Chapulines - tiny crickets sauteed in onion, avocado and cilantro with tomatillo sauce.

The restaurant's entree menu offers delightful dishes such as Chicken Breast Pasilla and Tomatillo, Chef Cruz's famous Chiles en Nogada, very fine Beef Tenderloin Mole, Pork Pibil with habańero and black bean escabeche, Crispy Duck Carnitas and Grilled Fish Fillet Achiote.

Seafood Enchiladas with hazelnut mole and Chiles Rellenos de Jaiba [crab, seasonal] are among the specials. And don't forget to save room for dessert! The Cajeta Flan, made with carmelized goat's milk is to die for!

El Arrayán, with it's open kitchen and lovely partially-covered courtyard featuring an array of traditional Mexican and Huichol art and live music by Los Frijoleros every Saturday at 7 pm, is an experience that you don't want to miss!

Stop by El Arrayán and discover for yourself what great Mexican food is all about! El Arrayán is in Downtown Puerto Vallarta at 344 Allende, a short stroll from the Malecon. Open Wed - Mon from 6 pm to 11 pm. Closed on Tuesdays and the month of August. Reservations can be made by calling 222-7195.
