email this pageprint this pageemail usBob Cohen - PVNN

All the boxers for the Saturday night fights pose outside Señor Frogs downtown in front of the huge sign hanging outside the club.

Carlos "the Professor" Solorio, manager and owner of Lanna Gym in Puerto Vallarta, will be making a "comeback" as he headlines a nine bout card of Muay Thai at Señor Frogs in El Centro on Saturday, February 17th beginning at 6:00 pm.

Solorio, who has been active in promoting events, training and teaching boxers, is coming off a long layoff to fight in the main event Saturday against Alan Vargas from Mexico City.

Solorio will headline the evening's fight, which will open with six amateur bouts and conclude with three professional fights. The two undercard professional fights will feature Ernesto "Finito" Valdez of Puerto Vallarta against Alfredo Diaz Servin of Mexico City and Eder "Thai" Huerta of Vallarta against Hector "Hierro" Uribe also from Vallarta.

There will be six amateur fights to open the night's action. The feature bout for the amateurs will have Solorio's younger brother, Hugo fighting against Oswaldo Rangel of Mexico City. Hugo had a long winning streak that ended when he was injured in his last bout, looks to get back to his aggressive winning ways and expects to turn professional later this year.

As in all of Carlos Solorio's events, a Lanna Gym fighter will be in every bout except the first one, with Carlos in the corner for all fights. Other local gyms that will have boxers participating are Speedy Muay Thai Gym, Tanay Luark Gym and Round Dragon Manzanarez Gym. The Vega Gym form Mexico City will be involved in three fights.

The amateur fights will all consist of three rounds lasting three minutes with a one minute break between rounds. All fighters will wear protective gear to prevent injury. The professional bouts will be five rounds each, with a two minute break between rounds. The only protective gear the more experienced fighters will wear is boxing gloves.

The fights begin at 6:00 pm sharp at Señor Frogs. Advance tickets cost $150 pesos and can be purchased at Lanna Gym, Golds Gym and all Señor Frog stores. On fight night tickets will be available at the door for $200 pesos. Come out and enjoy the fights Saturday night.
