Vallarta Yacht Club Hosts Youth Sailing Regatta

Nuevo Vallarta - On February 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2007, Junior Optimist sailors will take to the waters of Banderas Bay to compete for a place on Mexico's National Optimist sailing team and a chance to advance to the North American, European and World Optimist Championships.
The Optimist one-design regatta is sanctioned by the Mexican Sailing Federation and the Mexican Optimist Association and will present advanced and novice competitors from all over Mexico. It is expected that between 40 and 50 boats will register for the competition.
This Regatta is hosted by the Vallarta Yacht Club in Nuevo Vallarta. The Race course will be set on the north side of the harbor entrance and can be seen from the Paradise Village Resort, and the many other luxurious hotels and beaches in Nuevo Vallarta. The boats will be setting up, departing, and returning to the public boat ramp at Vallarta Yacht Club.
The Optimist, a 71/2 foot flat bottomed boat, is the biggest and fastest growing dinghy class in the World, and is the only dinghy designed exclusively for children under 15 years of age recognized by the International Sailing Federation.
Qualifiers from last year's WesMex just returned from the Worlds in Paraguay, where Jose Diego Reyes Marin of Valle Bravo place 34th in a field of 228 competitors, and two other Mexican sailors finished in the top half.
Last year's competitors faced very competitive, exciting and dramatic conditions with winds topping out at 20 knots on the second day of competition. It is expected that beautiful Banderas Bay will deliver fair winds again this year for Mexico's sailing future.
Depending on the wind conditions, the races will commence each day at 12:00 noon and will continue until approximately 6:00 PM. More fun after racing is promised this year with a family style street fiesta Saturday night at the VYC parking lot compete with cake, piñatas, and nautical games.
Sunday's itinerary is race in the afternoon, and boogie at night with a disco dance party on the beach at Paradise Village. The Awards Presentation will take place around 3:30 on Monday after completion of racing.

Nuevo Vallarta - En los días 3, 4 y 5 Febrero de 2007, los navegantes de la clase Optimist Juvenil se echarán a las aguas de Bahía de Banderas, a competir para obtener su lugar en el equipo nacional Mexicano de Vela clase Optimist y luego poder avanzar a los Campeonatos Norteamericano, Europeo y Mundial.
Esta regata Optimist de diseño único está permitida por la Federación Mexicana de Vela y la Asociación Mexicana clase Optimist, y lucirá competidores avanzados y principiantes de todas partes de México. Se esperan entre 40 y 50 embarcaciones registradas para la competición.
El anfitrión de esta Regata es el Vallarta Yacht Club ubicado en el Resort del Paradise Village en Nuevo Vallarta. La ruta de la Competición se situará en el lado norte de la entrada al puerto y podrá ser vista tanto desde el mismo Resort como desde las playas alrededor. Las embarcaciones se dispondrán, partirán y regresarán a la rampa naval pública en el Vallarta Yacht Club.
El Optimist, un barco de fondo plano de 71/2 pies, es el más grande de la clase dinghy a nivel mundial y él de mayor crecimiento, además de ser el único dinghy diseñado exclusivamente para niños menores de 15 años reconocido por la Federación Internacional de Vela.
Los cualificados del WesMex del año pasado apenas regresaron de las Competiciones Mundiales en Paraguay, donde José Diego Reyes Marín de Valle Bravo finalizó en el lugar 34 adentro de una lista de 228 competidores, mientras otros dos navegantes Mexicanos lograron quedarse en la primera mitad.
Los competidores del año pasado tuvieron que enfrentarse con condiciones extremadamente competitivas, estimulantes y dramáticas, con vientos alcanzando los 20 nudos en el segundo día de regata. Se espera que la hermosa Bahía de Banderas nos brinde buenas brisas nuevamente este año, para el bien del futuro de la Vela Mexicana.
Dependiendo de las condiciones del viento, las competiciones iniciarán cada día al mediodía y se extenderán hasta aproximadamente las 6:00 PM. La diversión después de las carreras está garantizada este año gracias a una Fiesta Callejera de estilo familiar el sábado en la noche en el estacionamiento del VYC con torneos de pasteles, piñatas, y juegos náuticos.
El programa del domingo presenta una competencia en la tarde, y boogie en la noche con una fiesta disco en la playa del Paradise Village. La Presentación de los Premios se efectuará alrededor de las 3:30 PM el lunes, una vez terminadas las competiciones.
