At the Acapulco Tianguis last March, Nayarit Governor Ney Gonzalez launched the brand name "Riviera Nayarit" for the 160 kilometers of coastline in the State of Nayarit that stretches from Nuevo Vallarta to San Blas.

One of Mexico's newest and fastest growing areas, this is where you find the really big deluxe hotels on sprawling oceanfront properties and residential developments in diverse settings, wide sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see, and a wealth of services and amenities.

The first destination event for the newly christened "Riviera Nayarit" will be the First Annual Banderas Bay Tuna and Marlin Fishing Tournament, which is scheduled to be held on July 13th through 15th at the Paradise Village Marina and Yacht Club.

The people of Riviera Nayarit, Mexico invite everyone to enjoy an unforgettable visit as you take part in this grand event, while experiencing the wide variety of tourist attractions in the area.

With approximately 150 anglers from around the world expected to participate, the fishing tournament is positioning itself as the first of many events to take place on the Nayarit coast and in the Bahia de Banderas, which the states of Jalisco and Nayarit share.

Among the objectives of the tournament are, along with the friendly, fun competition, is the creation of jobs and the economic inflow, since according to data from the Tourism Ministry, sportfishing generates revenues of nearly 500 million dollars a year.

At a recent press conference, Bahia de Banderas Fishing Club President Jesús Ernesto Avelar López said, "I am very proud to be participating in this challenge, in one of the most beautiful bays of the world. The tournament is a joint effort of fellow fishermen, authorities, sponsors, and most importantly, the residents of the region."

The purse for the First Annual Banderas Bay Tuna and Marlin Fishing Tournament will be over $115,000 USD, which organizers hope will generate confidence among participants and organizers.

The registration fee per team of four is $30,000 pesos before May 30th, or $33,000 pesos after June 1st, 2007. The fee includes a welcome cocktail, Gala Ball, awards and honorable mentions.
