President Calderon called for citizens, government, political parties, and civil society to a debate "of ideas and of reasons, that is respectful and has Mexico's future as its framework."
Mexico's President Felipe Calderon on Monday launched a development project named Vision 2030, describing Mexico as a leader in Latin America based on its foreign policy, development, stability and security.

The project focuses on five areas: public security, economic competitiveness, equality of opportunity, sustainable development and responsible foreign policy.

Calderon said that Mexico is visibly a nation that has a mature and equitable relationship with its Central and North American neighbors.

In 2030, he conceives "a Mexico where governments give clear account to citizens and where politicians forge agreements to push forward the nation's permanent development."

Speaking in Chapultepec Castle, a historic building in central Mexico City, he also outlined plans for a nation that is visible across the world and respected by all.

Calderon also described a nation whose economy grows dynamically and in a sustained manner, "which is already among the world's most largest economies and which will generate plentiful and well-paid employment".

He said that Mexico had not only arrested the deterioration of its forests and jungles but also begun to recover its forest resources and ecosystems.

The president said the vision was not "an exhaustive and definitive vision, that is exclusive and unmovable, but a roadmap to follow. Our government takes decisions thinking not only in the present of Mexicans, but also in their future."

He also called for citizens, government, political parties, and civil society to a debate "of ideas and of reasons, that is respectful and has Mexico's future as its framework."
