"Would you care for an amenity, miss?" the handsome young cabana attendant asked me for about the 87th time that day. Luxuriating in true princess fashion in my own private cabana at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico, I had already indulged in Haagen Dazs ice cream, frozen orange slices with red pepper, a mango smoothie and a hibiscus foam margarita. I'd had my sunglasses cleaned by the Sunglass Doctor, my face soothed by a cool towel and my choice of a DVD to watch in my cabana brought to me on a silver tray. A girl could get used to such treatment.
A first for the Four Seasons, the private cabanas are located at the Tamai pool, an adults-only complex in this lush 1,500-acre estate, and are available for rental by the day. Each exquisite cabana offers a daybed with pillows, 42-inch plasma TV, DVD player, iPod loaded with 8,000 songs, private bar and Internet access. Oh, and there are curtains you can close for privacy.
Although I was reluctant to tear myself away from the pool and my ever-available and ready-to-serve cabana boys, it was worth it for my next scheduled adventure: a sunset cruise onboard a yacht. Guests can charter the 55-foot Italian yacht, complete with a gorgeous crew serving elaborate hors d'oeuvres and drinks. (Is there anything better than handsome, smiling men serving cold beverages and luscious snacks?) Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, as we watched the magnificent sunset, we spotted several humpback whales, one of which breeched majestically a few yards from our yacht.
I'm not a movie star, a member of a royal family or an international woman of mystery, but I felt like one at the Four Seasons, where even the plastic grocery store bags that I put my shoes in for traveling were folded up neatly into matching triangles while I was out lounging on the beach.
Located about 25 miles from Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita has the usual resort amenities, along with a gorgeous infinity pool and a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course with one hole that occupies its own island, which requires a ride in an amphibious golf cart during high tide. A variety of food is available in four restaurants, including the newly opened Bahia, which is located at the ocean's edge. Or you can arrange a romantic dinner on The Rock, a cliff that juts out over the ocean and has become one of the engagement capitals of Mexico.
Already a favorite with families, the resort just added a new kids section with a lazy river for floating and kid-size cabanas. And the complimentary Kids for All Seasons program is offered year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for children 5 to 12. The service was impeccable, the scenery breathtaking and the pampering unsurpassed. Another mango smoothie, anyone?
