Enjoy music and dance performances, painting, sculpture and photo exhibits and much, much more at the first Zona Sur Weekend of Art, Culture and Diversion at various locations on Puerto Vallarta's traditional South Side from June 28th-July 1st.
In November of 2006, a group of Vallarta business owners and managers decided to create Grupo Zona Sur, an organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and supporting the areas just south of downtown Puerto Vallarta - from Basilio Badillo to Las Juntas de los Veranos.

At a press conference last month, Grupo Sur Director Norma Alicia Lynn and several South Side businesses owners announced that they were making plans to develop a successful tourism strategy for the South Zone.

So it came as no surprise when Norma Alicia Lynn recently declared that Grupo Zona Sur, in conjunction with the Arts and Culture Municipal Department, will be holding the first Zona Sur Weekend of Art, Culture and Diversion from June 28th through July 1st.

El Primer Fin de Semana del Arte, Cultura y Diversión en Zona Sur is the first event of it's kind to be held in Puerto Vallarta, offering a wide variety of fun - and free - activities and events at various locations on Puerto Vallarta's traditional South Side.

This fun filled weekend gets underway on June 28th at 8 pm. The Hotel Barceló La Jolla de Mismaloya provides the perfect venue for this journey of discovery. Affectionately dubbed "Callejoneada," the evening's events and activities include a Bird Show, Mexican Games, an Aztec Ritual Ceremony, performances by Malambo Argentinian and Tango Dancers, as well as Mimes and Contortionists, and a Tropical Show.

The evening comes to a close in the hotel's beautiful theater, where you will enjoy a Guitar Concert performed by renowned musicians, followed by a live presentation by artist Demián Mohar, whose "Manos Magicos" will create a majestic work of art right before your very eyes.

The fun continues on June 29th with a Mexican Folkloric dance performed by the Internationally famous dance troupe, Ballet Xiutla. The pride of Puerto Vallarta, these talented performing artists will present a multicolored mosaic that will transport you to the roots of Mexican culture through the art of dance. Also featured will be Dimensión Corporal, who will create a live work of art - this time through body painting.

On June 30th, you can experience the Zona Sur area by sea and enjoy wonderful views of the southern shores of Puerto Vallarta on a cruise aboard the Princesa Vallarta. The boat departs from the Maritima Terminal at 8:30 am and returns at 2 pm. During the cruise you will enjoy breakfast, an open bar serving domestic drinks, snacks, live music by Música Latinoamericana and a collective exhibition by local photojourmnalists. Snorkeling gear and access to the Marina Terminal are also included for a fee of just $65 pesos per person. Advance reservations are required and may be made by calling: 224-4777.

That same evening at 9 pm, join us at the Hotel Tropicana for a Batik exhibition created by artist Sara Apartado, plus a Bohemian Night featuring musician Mario Cibrán and guests that will stir your soul.

The weekend comes to a close at 7:00 pm on July 1st as Asadero's Restaurant presents a sculpture exhibition featuring 15 different art pieces from the River Cuale Cultural Center Sculpture Workshop, followed by a show based on the poetry of writer Rosario Castellanos performed by the Artilleria Pesada Theatre Company. At the end of the evening, and as a closing ceremony, musical group Varieté Musical will be joined by group KnD y Vale will be playing a fusion of Argentinian, Bolivian, and Mexican rhythms.

Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to enjoy yourself with family and friends in what will definitely be a very exciting promising cultural weekend, so mark your calendar and ENJOY!

Access to all events and exhibits is free, except for the La Princesa Vallarta Cruise, which costs $65 pesos per person, including food and beverages. The boat departs from the Maritima Terminal on June 30th at 8:30 am. To make reservations, call 224-4777.

It is important to point out that without the support of Lic Miguel González González, the General Director of Tourism Trustee of Puerto Vallarta; Lic David Izazaga Márquez, the Head of the Municipal Department of Arts and Culture; Lic Enrique Tovar, the Subdirector of Tourism of PV City Hall; and Lic Ernesto Hernández, the Subdirector of the Barceló La Jolla de Mismaloya Hotel, this magnificent event wouldn't be possible. Thank you for your support.
