Leading lifestyle portal continues international expansion with launch of Mexican community and secret show with Café Tacuba.
Mexico City - MySpace.com, the leading global lifestyle portal, announced today the official launch of its Mexican community (http://mx.myspace.com). In celebration of its launch, MySpace will host a Secret Show performance featuring famed Latin alternative rock band Café Tacuba (http://www.myspace.com/cafetacvba) in Mexico City on July 31.

"MySpace is about connecting with others, discovering culture and defining interests whether it be through blogging, instant messenger, sharing music, photos or videos," said Travis Katz, MySpace SVP and General Manager for International. “Our goal is to position MySpace as the premiere portal for Mexico specific content and events.”

Since the beta launch of MySpace Mexico in January 2007, MySpace has experienced a 67% increase in page views and a 39% increase in monthly signups. Additionally, the Spanish version of the newly launched MySpace Instant messaging is the most successful of the six non-English languages currently available on the site.

The fully localized community currently has more than 1.5 million unique active users per month, according to comScore, and joins MySpace’s existing global network of 115 million worldwide active users in 18 countries including France, Germany, Australia, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Japan, Sweden, Latin America and the United Kingdom.

MySpace will celebrate the official launch of MySpace Mexico by hosting a Secret Show featuring Café Tacuba, one of the most culturally significant and popular Latin alternative bands in the world. The envelope-pushing innovators from Mexico City continue to receive both critical praise on numerous “best of the year” lists and the recognition of their musical peers with GRAMMY and LATIN GRAMMY awards. The band will release its first new/original album in four years this fall.

Full details of the Secret Show with Café Tacuba are only available at http://www.myspace.com/secretshowsmx. To attend the free show fans must register on MySpace and add MySpace Secret Shows Mexico to their friend list.

MySpace is also growing its international team with two new members. Victor Kong, the company’s first new hire, will oversee the expansion and growth of the MySpace Latin online community as Managing Director of MySpace Latin America. Victor comes to MySpace with an extensive background in strategy, business development and new media having served as the VP of Strategy and New Media Development at MTV Networks Latin America and Global Director of E-Commerce for Terra Networks.

"The launch of MySpace Mexico will provide advertisers a unique opportunity to interact with the youth community in Mexico through event sponsorships and unique marketing partnerships that will enable brands to integrate with their users in rich and compelling ways," Kong said.

Also joining the MySpace team is Jose Casanova who comes to MySpace from EMI Music Mexico where he served as Label Manager in charge of Strategic Marketing. Jose will oversee all Mexico marketing and content initiatives in his role as Marketing Manager for MySpace Mexico.

MySpace Mexico recently partnered with EMI Records for a compilation CD of label artists and unsigned talent. The album is currently on sale in record stores across Mexico and is found on MySpace at http://myspace.com/eldiscomyspacemexico. Additionally, bands such as Molotov, Zoe, Austin TV, and Panda have partnered with MySpace for the releases of their new albums.

In May, MySpace Mexico sponsored Vive Latino (http://myspace.com/vivelatino), the country’s largest music festival in Mexico City to facilitate relationships between local artists and the Mexican community by encouraging fans to visit the official MySpace pages of their favorite artists. These profiles allow local musicians to post concert dates, write blogs, and provide new music for the MySpace Mexico online community.

MySpace has plans to expand into 10 additional countries in the next year. By visiting MySpace’s online global map, users are empowered to log on and view their profile through the lens of any country or language http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=InternationalMap.
