Real Estate at Risk in Mexican Capital

The Federal District of the City of Mexico is the capital of the Mexican Republic and has a population of more than 20 million.
Mexico City - More than half the buildings in Mexico's Federal Capital District endanger their inhabitants and many of these buildings are at risk of collapse, a Mexican municipal legislative committee alerted on Monday.

At least 60 percent of the 2.10 million houses in the 16 delegations (municipalities) are in danger of collapse, says local Legislative Assembly Civil Protection Committee, as quoted by PUBLIMETRO daily.

The reason for the terrible condition of real estate is failure to comply with construction standards, as materials used do not meet security and quality requirements, structures and sites lack stability or have poor foundations and suffer the impact of rain.

The report adds that 477 capital buildings are in a critical state, with 40,000 of them in danger of collapse from weather phenomena or geological faults.
