Bucerias Christmas For Kids
email this pageprint this pageemail usRon & Arlene Tackett - PVNN

If you would like to learn more about the Bucerias Christmas For Kids program or help us make this a very Merry Christmas for the children of Bucerias, please call (329) 298-1729.
Thirteen years ago, we started a free Christmas toy program for the children of Bucerias, Nayarit, and we now have some dates for this year's annual Christmas project - aptly named "Bucerias Christmas For Kids."

On December 9th, starting at 5 pm, there will be a no-host bar at the Paradise Yacht Club with a spaghetti dinner to follow at 6 pm Jalisco time. All the proceeds come to our fund to buy toys and candy for needy children.

This is our main source of income to buy the toys and candy. We thank Yacht Club members Doug and Diane Campbell, who have organized this and gotten other members of the Yacht Club involved in helping us. And a big thanks to all of the other Yacht Club members for the gifts and donations they have provided to us in the past three years.

This will be our project's thirteenth year. Last year we gave out toys and candy to 937 children. We always prepare for 1000 as we would not like to have any children left out. On Christmas day we take the toys that are left and we drive to some remote village and pass them out to the children there. Our motto is "The happier the children, the happier we are."

We will be having toy wrapping and candy bagging at our home on December 17th, a Monday, starting at 1 pm. We will also be bagging all of the sample shampoos, lotions, etc. that a lot of you have brought down with you. And we would appreciate your remembering us when you travel next year.

Such a small thing can put a beautiful smile on the mothers, grandmothers and old men's faces. Last year we had over 100 bags. Everything that we had left we donated to the women's prison.

This year, we are asking each person that comes to toy wrapping day to bring a soccer ball for the boys OR a baby doll for the little girls. If you have scissors, please bring them. We will have the wrapping paper pre-cut so it will go faster. Also we can always use tape.

Our goal is 200 soccer balls this year and we are close to that already. Many, many thanks to Kent and Sand Nelson, Bob and Debra Snodgrass, Wendy Allen, Jim and Susie McMillon and many more.

It was brought to our attention that the little girls love their baby dolls. We have approximately 200 Barbies this year and they will be given to the younger girls, starting at age six, thanks to three ladies from Victoria B.C., Lynn Hurley, Beulah Cooper and Cora Hazel. And Joyce Armstrong, from Red Deer Alberta, who purchased used Barbies and made each one of them a beautiful outfit.

In past years, we have always given dolls to the older girls, but two years ago it was pointed out that the teenage girls love makeup. So this year we are buying enough mascara, nail files and nail polish for 60 gift bags. These same four wonderful ladies made up 48 bags with elastic around the top. They are so cute. If there are any extra lotions or shampoos, we will put some in those makeup bags. And a special thanks to James and Jenny Nelson, who organized this project and brought these items from Victoria, B.C.

Ron and I welcome any suggestions to make our program more successful each year. We want every child to go home with a "special" gift that they can enjoy. As our funds grow with your generosity, we are able to do this. We've come a long way since the first year!

Remember we can not do this alone. Each one of you is special and together we get the job done! Thanks for all you do.

Arlene and Ron Tackett, a.k.a. Santa and Mrs. Santa
