A dinner concert featuring Billy Vera & the Beaters at the Playa del Sol Grand Resort in Nuevo Vallarta on December 5th will celebrate the opening of the 4th Vallarta Film Festival, which continues through December 9th at Cinemark Theater.
The Fourth Annual Vallarta Film Festival, which will take place at Cinemark Theater at Plaza Caracol from December 5-9, will open with the Puerto Vallarta premier showing of The Grand at 5 pm on Wednesday, December 5th, 2007.

Directed by Zak Penn and starring Woody Harrelson, Ray Romano, Werner Herzog, Jason Alexander and Richard Kind, this spirited comedy centers around a middle-aged guy who is trying to save his dead grandfather’s hotel-casino from a real estate developer by winning the world’s most famous high-stakes tournament, the Grand Championship of Poker.

Immediately following the movie, a dinner concert featuring Atlantic Jazz and Blues recording artists Billy Vera & the Beaters will kick off this year's Film Festival at the Playa del Sol Grand Resort in Nuevo Vallarta.

An American singer, songwriter, and music historian, Billy Vera began his career in 1962 as a member of the Resolutions. Singers who have recorded some of Billy’s songs are Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Fats Domino, The Shirelles, Tom Jones, Freda Payne and Little Milton, and Etta James.

Billy also appeared on television and in movies. He and his band were featured in the movie Blind Date, which starred Bruce Willis. Vera also starred in the TV series of Wise Guy, Baywatch, Boy Meets World, Beverly Hills 90210, and the soap opera Days of our Lives. This led him to the composing of songs for Empty Nest, King of Queens, and also voice-overs on Cartoon Network cartoons.

Today, the Beaters are still playing the California club scene. Billy can still sing as well as he did back in the 'old days,' which draws a crowd everywhere he and his band perform.

Several of the movie stars and cast members of The Grand are expected to attend the Vallarta Film Festival's opening celebration, which starts at 9 pm with Mexican actor Aaron Diaz acting as host.

Tickets cost just $650 pesos per person and include a ticket to the premier showing of "The Grand" movie at the Cinemark Theater Plaza Caracol, transportation from the theater to Playa del Sol Grande in Nuevo Vallarta, an open bar, an International buffet dinner and live entertainment by Billy Vera & the Beaters.
