At Ztai Restaurant + Lounge + Garden in downtown Puerto Vallarta you’ll discover three different concepts under one roof: a stylish Pacific Rim Restaurant, a Zen-like garden and a sophisticated Minimal Bar - Lounge with an oceanfront view. Visit the website at ztai.com.

Ztai Restaurant Lounge and Garden in downtown Puerto Vallarta features the town's largest wine cellar in a two-story tower, great music and fusion Pacific Rim cuisine served in 3 different environments: indoors in semi-formal ambiance, in a casual garden with a wood deck and trees [one is Vallarta's oldest] and in a lounge that overlooks both la Bahía de Banderas and the garden.

International starters which we sampled on our recent visit were Chunky Tuna and Salmon Ceviche in a soy-lime vinaigrette with won ton crisps and Duck Tacos served with small corn tortillas and a dollop of Molcajete Sauce, a blend of chiles and cilantro, on top. Both were hits with our happy party.

Main courses are varied and choosing was difficult. Seafood Risotto with a "not too rich" creamy lobster sauce and Parmesan cheese was generously supplied with scallops, shrimp and fish pieces. It was appropriately sticky and very moist, the way this dish should be presented.

Grilled Asian Pesto Chicken was served over a large mound of wild rice, not jasmine as the menu listed. Alongside were sautéed fresh vegetables. The dish was overall mild with the distinct flavor of the pesto. Miso-cured Mahi Mahi arrived with sautéed mushrooms and whole soy beans. The fish was moist, flaky and good sized. Carrot chips were a deep-fried delight on the plate, too.

Cheesecake with goat cheese and burnt caramel and Key Lime Pie with a pecan crust were both well-prepared. The highlight were the Caramel Crêpes with Ricotta and sliced apples, a fitting elegant finish to a delightful dinner on the town.

Located at Morelos 737 in downtown Puerto Vallarta, Ztai Restaurant + Lounge + Garden is open daily for lunch from Noon to 5 pm, for dinner from 6 pm to 2 am. The lounge is open until 4 am. For more information or to make your reservations, call (322) 222-0306 or visit ztai.com.
