What is a Traveling Angel?

A Christmas "giving tree" is set up at ChocoBanana, #147 Amapas at Pulpito, until December 21st to provide needed items for New Life Mexico's Pregnant Teens Program.
At first Philippa, Margaret and I thought about not holding this week's Local Celebrity Charity Night at Banana Cantina because, due to everyone celebrating the last day of the Perigraciones and the anniversary of Vallarta downtown, it was so slow on the South Side.

Then we thought "why not?" Since the Christmas season is a time of year when we remember those less fortunate than ourselves, why not indeed! So a few of us had dinner and talked about what we could do to further support New Life Mexico's programs.

We met Sterling and Liz, who carried down a bag full of goodies for New Life Mexico and are thinking of many more ways they can help. We met Kim, who would like to assist in various ways, Cassandra (with Bean and Leo), Greg, Michael, and friends, Valerie of Curves, bearing gifts from her wonderful Curves Girls, and several more whose names escape me... sorry.

Everyone was wanting to do something (and wishing we had a Dollar Store here,) and wondering how to get all of the things New Life needs (vitamins, toothpaste, wash cloths, toothbrushes, gym shoes, etc.) to Puerto Vallarta... then, voíla Traveling Angels was born!

What is a Traveling Angel? Someone who makes room in their suitcases to bring donated goods to the children of New Life Mexico. How can you participate? Tell us where you are from and when you are coming down and we will get the items from you and deliver them to the Street Boys and Pregnant Teens of New Life Mexico.

All that from a quiet night. How lucky are we!

New Life Mexico (NLM) is a charity that supports children and young people in Mexico who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused. Over the past three years Philippa Vernon-Powell (NLM’s only ‘Field Representative’) has been directly involved in setting up a street children rehabilitation center with local Mexican social services (DIF).

With the newly donated facilities available the small team of dedicated local staff are at last seeing a slow yet progressive change to these children’s lives - and you can help!

For more information about the programs at New Life Mexico please visit NewLifeMexico.com or send an email to Philippa Vernon-Powell at pvp(at)newlifemexico.com.
