Challenge Your Beliefs
email this pageprint this pageemail usJOY! - PVNN

Is it really true that you are stupid, or do you just have your own unique way of thinking and perceiving in the world that didn't happen to align with whomever told you that your were stupid when you were a child?

Birth to age seven are our first frame reference years, the years in which we form the majority of our beliefs about ourselves and the world. How have you been programmed and by whom? How many of your thoughts are actually yours? What beliefs did you learn as a child? Which ones are you still living?

With the right questions you can find the answers to whatever ails you! Two powerful questions to use when a negative self thought or belief comes up are:

Is this still true for me?
What is true for me now?

A belief is just a thought that we accepted as true. We know our thoughts change, our beliefs change as well. What is true for you today isn't necessarily what was true for you last year or even last week.

Catch yourself whenever you hear yourself say a word like never or can't, always or should. These words will often cue you to a program that your subconscious has running which may or may not be to your benefit.

"I'm stupid." There's one, STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING and ask "Is that actually true?" or "is this still true for me?" Track the belief to find out where it came from. You'd be amazed at how many of my 'learning disabled' clients had negative beliefs about their ability to learn installed by premenstrual 3rd grade teachers.

Is it really true that you are stupid, or do you just have your own unique way of thinking and perceiving in the world that didn't happen to align with whomever told you that your were stupid when you were a child? Did they punish you for being different, tell you that you were wrong and make you believe they were right because they were an authority?

Look back at that now through adult eyes, and give yourself time to absorb the new awareness it reveals.

You thought it was true because of the information and evidence you had at the time, so it became true for you. We see the world not as it is, but as we are.

As more information and different evidence comes to light, new views are revealed and we can adjust our beliefs accordingly. You don't need to keep believing without questioning, unless you want to. You can check your beliefs any time to find out if they are actually still true for you. Then ask "What IS true for me now?"
