Mexico City - Mexican higher education students constituted the University Committee in Defense of Oil, and summoned rallies against oil privatization and demanding respect for Mexican sovereignty.

Students from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Metropolitan Autonomous University, and Autonomous University stated that because of the intention of Mexican President Felipe Calderon to deliver oil to consortiums, made a call for a great national front.

They warned on the risk of a legislative change that permits modifications in the Mexican Constitution and start the privatization of Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX).

"We reject any mechanism to keep reduction and foster the selling of the national riches to transnationals," they said in a press note.

"We will convoke for demonstrations in our faculties, schools and institutes to stop attacks to the national sovereignty and dignity," they concluded
