Security Measures after Explosion in Mexican Capital

The Mexican capital woke up Sunday under special protection from several federal and capital corps after the explosion that occurred 48 hours ago near the Secretary of Public Security (SSP).

Authorities reinforced security in several points of the city after the homemade bomb device killed one person and inflicted severe wounds on another, The motives of the crime remain unknown.

National media highlighted that the National Security Warning System was activated throughout the country, strengthening surveillance in airports, roads, seaports, border crossings and means of communication.

Measures also included strategic infrastructure in the country, it was informed.

Security reinforcement includes the Collective Transport System, the subway, Central Light and Power Company. the official residence at Los Pinos, Homeland Security and the Senate, as well as military garrisons in the Federal District.

Forces of the Federal Preventive Police with dogs trained in detection of explosives were deployed at the Chamber of Deputies and the San Lazaro quarters.

The same thing occurred at the General Attorney of the Republic s office, in centric Paseo de la Reforma avenue.

El Universal daily reports that the SSP headquarters personnel were instructed on Friday to leave the 14-story building because of a fake bomb threat.

The same source does not discard that the real objective of the bomb device were the subway train facilities at the Glorieta Insurgentes, station located 100 meters where the explosion occurred, that is, the Security Ministry headquarters.

The General Attorney of the Republic s office still investigates the identity of the man killed in the explosion, of about 30 years of age, while forensic specialists do not discard the victim may be the same person who activated the bomb.
