Mexico City — Relatives of dozens of coal miners killed in a 2006 explosion marched through the Mexican capital to commemorate the second anniversary of the disaster and demand authorities recover their remains.

About 200 people marched along main avenues to Mexico City's central Zocalo square waving signs and banners but keeping silent out of respect for the dead.

Authorities have recovered the bodies of only two of the 65 miners killed in the Feb. 19, 2006 explosion , which generated temperatures of up to 1,110 degrees Fahrenheit (600 Celsius) in the Pasta de Conchos mine in the border state of Coahuila.

Family members have held numerous protests to demand the recovery of their loved ones' bodies, but officials have indefinitely suspended the effort, saying conditions are too dangerous.

Grupo Mexico SA de CV, a railroad and mining company that owns Pasta de Conchos and operations throughout Mexico, Peru and the United States, insists that the mine met all safety standards and denies allegations that precautions were ignored.
