Tómatelo a Pecho - Take it to Heart

Early detection can make the difference between watching your children grow up or having a life cut short. "Take It to Heart" can help make that difference.
On March 11, 2008 I was honored to speak at the presentation of the Carso Health Institute's new program to enhance breast cancer awareness 'Tómatelo a Pecho' (Take it to Heart.)
In the United States, because of early detection and improved treatment, the five-year survival rate for women who were diagnosed with early stage breast cancer is 98%, and there are nearly 2.5 million survivors of breast cancer living today. It's time for these advances to be brought to women, not only in Mexico but everywhere.
The Carso Institute is about creating hope for each cancer patient, and their families, to not only defeat this terrible disease, but to detect it early enough to allow for successful treatment. Early detection of breast cancer is the difference between creating big and small memories, all of them meaningful, or leaving a void in which our loved ones can only wonder what might have been.
Later this week, First Lady Laura Bush will be in Mexico City to formally launch the Mexico-United States Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. Our goal is to partner alongside already impressive efforts here in Mexico. We are all focused on the same goal - to give more women more time to live.

Tómatelo a Pecho Ayuda a Hacer Realidad tal Diferencia

El día de 11 de marzo de 2008, tuve el honor de participar en la presentación del nuevo programa 'Cáncer de Mama - Tómatelo a Pecho' del Instituto Carso de la Salud, que tiene por objeto concientizar a la opinión pública sobre el cáncer de mama.
En los Estados Unidos, gracias a la detección temprana y al mejoramiento de los tratamientos, la tasa de cinco años de sobrevivencia para las mujeres con diagnóstico temprano de cáncer de seno es de 98% y, hoy en día, hay cerca de 2.5 millones de sobrevivientes de cáncer de seno. Es tiempo de que estos avances alcancen no sólo a las mujeres en México, sino en todo el mundo.
El Instituto Carso tiene como objetivo dar esperanza a cada paciente y a sus familias, no sólo para vencer a este terrible mal, sino para detectarlo desde su etapa inicial y permitir un tratamiento exitoso.
La detección temprana de este padecimiento hace la diferencia entre tener recuerdos grandes y pequeños, todos con gran significado... o dejar un vacío en el que nuestros seres queridos sólo pueden preguntarse lo que habría podido ser.
En los próximos días, la Primera Dama de los Estados Unidos, Laura Bush, estará en la Ciudad de México para lanzar de manera formal la Alianza México-Estados Unidos sobre el Cáncer de Seno. Nuestro objetivo es una alianza paralela a los esfuerzos ya existentes aquí en México. Estamos concentrados en lo mismo; dar más tiempo de vida a más mujeres.
