The Wise Wo-men of Vallarta are pleased to present the Amazing Norma Schuh: "Musings on Mortality - Leaving a Legacy" at 10 am on March 19th at the International Friendship Club.

The "D" word is not one with which most people in the Western world are comfortable. Actor/director Woody Allen summed up popular sentiments in his often-quoted statement - "I’m not afraid of dying; I just don’t want to be there when it happens!"

Fear of the unknown, loss of control and the incomprehensibility of no longer existing renders our mortality a difficult topic of conversation. Yet, death is not the enemy. Holding to the fear of death is.

Avoidance will not make our shared fate disappear. Rather, embracing death and becoming familiar with it can prepare you for life’s ultimate conclusion. Equally important, truly recognizing your own mortality can shape how you live and create the legacy you will leave behind.

Death is an opportunity to enter life wholeheartedly. Reflecting on death inspires vitality, purpose and passion. What would you do different, if you had one year left to live? Ideally, how would you like to be remembered?

What wisdom gleaned from your own walk on earth would you like to bequeath future generations? If you could pack a bag for the journey what would you take? What unfinished "business" needs addressing before you leave for ports unknown?

How has your life mattered in the broad scheme of things? How would you wish others to celebrate your life when you can no longer host the final party? What can you do now to lend comfort to your survivors in the future?

In addition to personal insights sparked by this presentation, be prepared for some laughs as well... Yes, even mortality can be a source of mirth. Since death is a given, let us dance with it, embrace its mystery, and use it as an impetus for gratitude and living on purpose.

Note: We ask that you bring a donation for those less fortunate such as canned-dried goods, school supplies and gently used children clothing.

If you plan to attend, R.S.V.P. to pamela(at)healthcareresourcespv.com. We hope to see you there - and don't forget to bring your friends!
