PV Goes "Bananas" in Support of Children

On April 9th, Len and Larry turned Banana Cantina Charity Night upside down and inside out, raising $31,348 pesos for R.I.S.E.

You can help Mike and Debbi, their customers and other local business owners in their continued support of Banderas Bay area charities. Stop by Banana Cantina on April 16th, as Intercam-Vallarta's Alma and Jason host Celebrity Charity Night to raise money for New Life Mexico's programs that support Mexican children who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused.

In the press release announcing April 9th's Celebrity Charity Night, I promised that Sudy, Larry and Len were going to turn bANANaCANtiNA upside down and inside out. Well they did, with major help from Sally!

No more Roosters in the niche. Instead, one of the auction items, a pair of 3-foot tall whimsical terra cotta sculptures crafted by young artists in a studio in Guadalajara entitled "Café Ladies," were on display.

No big leather covered banana as you came up the stairs. In its place was another item up for bid, a beautifully framed photograph of some of the R.I.S.E. children entitled "Innocence, Compassion and Friendship."

Every single raffle envelope with a 50/50 chance of winning was sold. After all, who could resist Len when he asked you to reach into his goodie basket for a prize?

As predicted, everyone got into trading. Some even resorted to begging, but in the end, everyone went home with the prize they wanted.

When it was time for the live auction, Larry, looking gorgeous and professional, got the highest bid for each and every generously donated item. This summer and fall some of your friends may be coming out of a different condo, as many of the multi-night stays were bid on by homeowners looking for a mini-get-away right here in Vallarta.

Sudy was the high bidder for the framed photographs, and then her friend lovingly paid for it as a gift to her. Awesome thing, friendship, as proved by everyone who attended this very creative, special, crazy and wonderful Charity Night.

Proceeds from all the fun, which came to $31,348 pesos, were donated to R.I.S.E. (Refugio Infantil de Santa Esperanza), a nonprofit shelter for Banderas Bay area babies and children under the age of 14 who have been orphaned, abused, neglected or abandoned.

Held every Wednesday from 7-10 pm, Banana Cantina's popular Local Celebrity Night offers residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a great meal, meet interesting people - and raise money for local charities while you're at it!

On April 16th, Alma and Jason of Intercam-Vallarta, a group of institutions providing financial services including management, exchange, insurance and other services, will host for New Life Mexico's Street Boys and their other programs that support Banderas Bay area children who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused.

For more information about the programs at New Life Mexico please visit NewLifeMexico.com or send an email to Philippa Vernon-Powell at pvp(at)newlifemexico.com.
