You can help Mike and Debbi, their customers and other local business owners in their continued support of Banderas Bay area charities. Stop by Banana Cantina on April 23rd, as Candace of Fishing with Carolina hosts Celebrity Charity Night to raise funds for AUTISM02, a non-profit Clinic with a Hyperbaric Chamber.

April 16th's Charity Night at bANANacANtiNA was hosted by local celebrity guest hosts Alma and Jason of Intercam-Vallarta, a group of institutions that provide Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors with a variety of fiscal resources including financial management, money exchange, insurance and check cashing services, in an effort to raise much needed funds for New Life Mexico.

The night was beautiful. Puerto Vallarta Field Director, Philippa Vernon-Powell, talked to guests that had never heard of New Life Mexico's programs and now want to help. New Life Mexico (NLM) is a British Charity that supports children and young people in Mexico who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused.

Later, Local Celebrity Guest Hosts Alma and Jason of Intercam Financial Services Puerto Vallarta explained their services, like check cashing and their great rates on dollar to peso conversions.

Once again, there were several children at this week's Charity Night. Since these fun-filled evenings at Banana Cantina are all about, and for, our local children, it is always fun to have them here.

Generous donations included gift certificates weekly from Cassandra Shaw Jewelry, Mama Dolores Diner, Bruce's Back Alley, Encuentros Pizza Bar and Lounge. Other prizes included a silk travel bag from La Bohemia, a Recycled paper purse donated by R.I.S.E. fund raising queen and chief volunteer Sudy Coy, and two necklaces donated by a supporter of New Life Mexico. Earrings donated by Cassandra Shaw were won by Sudy, who gave them to Philippa - she was thrilled!

When all was said and done, together we raised $2156 pesos for New Life Mexico. NLM works in partnership with Dirección de Protección a la Infancia (child protection services), a division of DIF (social services) Puerto Vallarta on seven programs:

• ESCI (Child Sexual Exploitation)
• Albergue Vida Nueva (New Life Street Kid Shelter)
• Red Juvenil (Kids at Risk)
• PROPADETIUM (Working Kids)
• PAIDEA - (Pregnant Teenage Program)
• Programa 10-14 (Primary School Education for Kids aged 10-14)
• PAFIC (Children with parents in prison)

The small team of dedicated local staff and volunteers at New Life Mexico are making a difference in these children's lives - and you can help! As you can imagine their needs are many, but very basic. Soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, washcloths, deodorant, vitamins, shoes, socks... No donation is too small.

For more information about the programs at New Life Mexico please visit NewLifeMexico.com or send an email to Philippa Vernon-Powell at pvp(at)newlifemexico.com.

Banana Cantina Charity Nights are held every Wednesday from 7 to 10 pm. Next week, Candace of Fishing with Carolina will guest host to help us raise funds for AUTISM02, a non-profit clinic with a Hyperbaric Chamber.

This chamber is also for hire for those with MS, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Stroke and more. Join us for great food, drinks, service, a raffle with great prizes, and lots of fun to raise funds that will enable a needy child to spend time in the chamber.

Located on the corner of Pulpito and Amapas in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta, Banana Cantina Restaurant serves creative Contemporary Mexican and International Cuisine in an eclectic, yet comfortable, atmosphere. For more information or to make your reservations, call 222-2114 or visit BananaCantina.com.
