Great Food - No Matter What You Call It
email this pageprint this pageemail usMargarita la Bonita - PVNN

Located on the top floor of the Vallarta Plaza building in the Plaza Principal, Chilaquiles/Enchiladas offers great food and wonderful views of the bay, Los Arcos amphitheatre and the Malecón.

Do you love Tamales? Well, I have found the best ones in town at a wonderful new restaurant, right in the center of downtown Puerto Vallarta.

On the main plaza, on the very top of a new building called Vallarta Plaza (yes, the one where Starbucks is,) you'll find a new restaurant called Chilaquiles. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but for some reason it is only called "Chilaquiles" during the day. At night the restaurant's name changes to "Enchiladas."

Be that as it may, and for whatever reason the name changes, it is certainly worth checking out.

First of all the view is wonderful! Not only do you get the full view of the bay, but the Plaza Principal, Los Arcos amphitheatre and a long stretch of the Malecón are spread out right in front of you.

The night that we were there, we sat outdoors and there was a very loud rock band performing, so it was a little close for comfort, but later a group that played Mexican music at a reasonable level was very pleasant, and we had a front row seat for the Marigalante fireworks.

So of course we are really looking forward to enjoying the Folkloric dancers, and some of the other wonderful performers as we get to a more quiet time of the year! We could have gone inside to the glass enclosed dining room, much quieter and in the summer air-conditioned, but we didn't want to give up even a corner of the view!

But I suppose you want to hear about the food. The menu is, as expected, all Mexican. At our table we enjoyed the wonderful tamales, Pozole that was muy rico, and Tampicania, that was tender and very flavorful.

The Margarita was cold and just right, and the Sangria was refreshing. The only disappointment was they didn't have the flan that was touted on the menu as "The Best in Town," but since they have only been open one week, I will have to excuse them on this.

Hopefully they will have the Flan next time - and there will be a next time, if only for the Tamales!
