Think Summer — La Cruz Yacht Club at Marina Riviera Nayarit is open for summer fun, and the marina’s prices have been lowered for the season.

Puerto Vallarta — Prices seem to keep going down instead of up at Banderas Bay — and boaters can now take advantage of even lower off-season rates that started this month.

Marina Riviera Nayarit, the new full-service marina about 10 miles out of Puerto Vallarta, lowered its slip prices effective May 1.

According to Harbormaster Christian Mancebo, boaters with yachts of any size booking a slip for a month or more will pay only 35 cents per foot per day, and the new daily rate is 50 cents per foot. Both rates are considerably lower than those boaters paid when this marina opened in January. These new lower prices may not yet be reflected on the marina’s Web site, but Mancebo said they’re good through Oct. 31.

This summer will be the new pleasurecraft harbor’s debut as a comfortable berth for U.S. yachts. A pair of large breakwaters shields the marina’s 200 slips and fuel dock.

Along this north shore of Banderas Bay, summer’s huge southerly swell is what previously drove hundreds of yachts out of the open anchorage at La Cruz. This year, more than 100 yachts can berth safely and inexpensively inside the marina, and yatistas (visiting boaters) can sample ice-cold cervezas at the new La Cruz Yacht Club, Mancebo said. When the facility is “built out” in 2009, the marina plans 396 slips.

Marina Riviera Nayarit is also known as La Cruz Marina, because it is located in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, a quaint fishing village at the southeast corner of the state of Nayarit.
