This weekend, Puerto Vallarta will be celebrating it's 90th year as a municipality and its 40th anniversary as a city - and it promises to be a gala affair!

This year, in addition to the traditional May 31st celebrations, there will be fireworks galore at the Augustine Contreras Flores Sports Stadium on May 30th as the city hosts the first annual National Fireworks Championships, a new Art Festival unlike anything Vallarta has seen before, and the chance to dine at some of Banderas Bay's finest restaurants for up to 50% off the regular prices during the last two days of Restaurant Week.

On May 31st, Puerto Vallarta's traditional anniversary celebration begins at 8 pm with an address by Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal at the Los Arcos Amphitheater on the Malecón, followed by the customary cutting of the Anniversary cake in the Plaza de Armas kiosk at 8:45 pm.

At 9 pm, the new lighting on the distinctive crown-shaped bell tower on Puerto Vallarta's most famous landmark, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, will be inaugurated in a special ceremony.

The celebration continues at 9:15 next to the seahorse statue on the Malecón as three Mexican bands - el Mariachi Joya de México, la Banda Zagal and la Banda Caña Verde will do what they do best as they help us celebrate these two important anniversaries through a concert that is expected to last for about two hours.

Throughout the evening, the Malecón will be alive with activities and local vendors offering all kinds of local treats. When the music stops at 11 pm, a fantastic fireworks display over Banderas Bay will close this year's anniversary celebrations with a bang.
