Guanajuato, Gto. - “Today, Mexican men and women, many of them in their daily lives, either anonymously or within public service, even without the stature of Hidalgo, work and even offer their own lives to defend Mexicans' freedom,” declared President Felipe Calderón.

During the official announcement of Expo Bicentennial Mexico 2010, in Alhóndiga de Granaditas, the president thanked all the anonymous heroes who, as policemen and soldiers, sacrifice their lives in the call of duty.

During the commemoration of the 255th anniversary of the birth of Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, President Calderón described this morning’s killing of Edgar Millan, Commissioner of the Preventive Federal Police as cowardly.

During the event in the city of Guanajuato, the President urged all Mexicans to ensure that the efforts of the nation's father should translate into a more prosperous, fair and equitable country.

He said that 2010 will be the year of the nation and that Mexico should arrange an encounter for all Mexicans to reflect on the country it would like to have.

The Expo Bicentennial, which will be able to be seen by 12 million people, is a joint investment by Federal Government, State Government and private enterprise that is expected to create 3,000 direct jobs and over 15,000 indirect jobs during construction.

In its pavilions, visitors will be able to see details of the country’s natural and cultural wealth, find out more about the history of Independence and the Revolution and participate in the forums on the future of Mexico.
