During his participation in the 99th IMSS Ordinary General Assembly, President Felipe Calderón hails acquisition law that will make biddings more transparent and permit substantial savings.

President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa stated that his government plans to transform the IMSS into a more efficient, stronger Mexican Social Security Institute with a greater capacity for attention, for the benefit of affiliated members.

During his participation in the 99th IMSS Ordinary General Assembly, President Felipe Calderón acknowledged the fact that it was up to the authorities to improve service and provide the standard of care beneficiaries deserve.

Rest assured that my government will also do what it must do for the benefit of the Social Security Institute, so that it continued to protect the health of Mexican families.

As part of the efforts to raise the Institute’s standards, the President highlighted the reforms of the Law of Purchases, which will lend transparency to the public bidding processes, thereby insuring that the IMSS purchases supplies and medicine at the best possible price and saves between $2 and 3 million pesos, which could be used to build more hospitals.

He also declared that last year saw the end of the decline in the availability of infrastructure regarded in terms of the number of beneficiaries attended and from then onwards, the authorities have recovered the ground lost in achieving the standards of quality and capacity for dealing with workers and their families.

President Felipe Calderón stressed that it is possible to have a strong, renewed Institute, with state of the art infrastructure and quality services, and that this will only be achieved by working together for the benefit of the millions of affiliated members.

He asked the IMSS administration and workers to improve the quality of service. “We must put ourselves in the other people’s place, imagine the situation from the other side of the counter and sit in the waiting room or queue where the affiliated members wait for their appointments, since workers and their families deserve the best and most timely care.

For his part, Juan Molinar Horcasitas, IMSS Director General, reported that according to the measures ordered by the President, during the current cycle it will be possible to save $3.313 billion pesos, which will be invested in 37 new works to be inaugurated meaning an additional 997 beds and surgeries throughout the country.
