Representatives of 24 Banderas Bay area charities and members of the local press gathered together at the Marriott Hotel in Puerto Vallarta on July 16th for the official granting of funds raised at the 5th Annual International Altruism Festival.

Every year hundreds of Puerto Vallarta residents and visitors turn out for the Altruism Festival, which features top restaurants offering food and refreshments, live entertainment, dancing and more for one low price, with all proceeds donated to Banderas Bay area charities and non-profit organizations.

The 2008 Altruism Festival, which was held in the beachfront garden at the Marriott CasaMagna Resort on May 25th, was attended by approximately 1900 members of Vallarta's national and international community who had a great time raising $583,580 pesos.

At Wednesday's press conference, the event's proceeds were divided equally among the 24 participating non-profit organizations, with each charity receiving a $24,320 peso check presented by the festival's founder, American Consular Agent Kelly Trainor.

During the presentation, Trainor praised all of the sponsors and volunteers, including the CasaMagna Marriott Resort management and staff, participating Puerto Vallarta restaurants and food & beverage suppliers, and everyone who donates the time, equipment and talents that make the International Altruism Festival a truly magnificent charitable event year after year.

After the presentation, CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & SPA Public Relations Manager, Josefina Naya, took a moment to speak with BanderasNews videographer Devon Allistone.

According to Ms. Naya, this popular annual event offers everyone the opportunity to learn more about the continuing and varying needs of some of our most important non-profit and charitable organizations, including those that feed the hungry, enrich children's lives through education, cater to the medical and rehabilitation needs of people of all ages, and care for animals and the environment.

Plans for next year's event are already being made. Once again the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and American Consular Agent Kelly Trainor will be teaming up to host the 6th Annual International Altruism Festival, scheduled to take place next May.
