BanderasNews videographer Devon Allistone brings you on the spot coverage of the 2008 Puerto Vallarta International Beach Volleyball Tournament, which is taking place daily through September 28th at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Complex.

The Pan American Games, second only to the Olympics as the biggest international sports competition in the world, are held every four years under the sponsorship of the International Olympic Committee.

The first Games were scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires in 1943, but World War II caused them to be postponed until 1951. Since then, the Games have been held every four years, with participation at the most recent event at over 5,000 athletes from 42 countries.

The 2011 Pan American Games are scheduled to take place in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and Puerto Vallarta is honored to co-host the sailing and triathlon competitions. In an effort to convince the PanAm Games organization committee to hold the Beach Volleyball portion of the 2011 PanAm games here in Vallarta as well, the city is hosting the 2008 Puerto Vallarta International Beach Volleyball Tournament from September 26-28th at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Complex, Blvd. Francisco Medina Ascencio, Hotel Zone.

Laura Amaral, who is in charge of organizing the event, confirmed that teams from México, Canada, Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and the United States of America are competing in this three-day sporting event.

During the three days of intense action, matches are being held from 11 am-7 pm. There are also many sponsors there with booths that have food, drink and various services. The tournament will be broadcast live on the TVC channel. The finals will be held on Sunday, September 28th at 5 pm, followed by an awards ceremony with a prize purse of $10,000 USD.
