FONDEN resources activated to provide affected population with immediate assistance.

Mexico City - The Head Office of Civil Protection of the Interior Secretariat issued an Emergency Declaration for the municipalities of: Tuxpan, Santiago Ixcuintla and San Blas in the state of Nayarit following the atypical floods from August 29 to September 2 2008, thereby activating resources from the Revolving Fund of the Natural Disaster Fund (FONDEN) to provide immediate assistance for flood victims.

As a result of this declaration, the authorities will be able to use resources from the FONDEN Revolving Fund to provide food, shelter and health care for the population affected by this meteorological phenomenon.

The declaration, requested by the government of this state, uses FONDEN resources to deal with the flood victims' most pressing needs as well as the possible side-effects of a natural phenomenon of this nature.
